Keep It Simple

But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.    __ 2 Corinthians 11:3(NASB)

Simplicity is a key to success! I once heard someone say, “Simple and deep is better than complicated and shallow.” When I think about that statement, it teaches me that if I give myself to one or two things and really master them, I will be more successful at them. I will be able to do them with excellence. On the other hand, if I try to do too many things or be involved in too many activities, my life will get very complicated and I will be very ineffective, nonproductive, and shallow.

So, I came to the realization that it is better to do one thing with excellence and become an expert in that area than to try to do many things and not accomplish any of them.

Simple means easy and not involved or complicated. It means having few parts and not complex.  According to Webster simple means not hard to understand or do.

In order for a seed to grow, it must be planted deep enough. If the seed is shallow, it won’t grow. In the same way, if you are shallow when it comes to God’s Word, by just  haphazardly reading it and not studying and meditating on it and getting it deep inside of your spirit and allowing it to become a part of you so that it can renew your mind and change you, you won’t grow spiritually.

Don’t spread yourself too thin. Keep it simply! Do not complicate your life. When the Holy Spirit speaks to you and let you know that you are starting to make things complicated, listen and obey.  It seems like nothing is simple anymore. We live in a very complex world. Often even the simplest tasks can be complicated. God is not complicated! We complicate God and His Word when we do not take His Word and simply apply it to our lives.

The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.                                   _Psalm 119:130 (NLT)

This verse lets us know that God’s Word gives light. This means that He gives us understanding. God gives His light to the people who read and study His Word daily.  His Word is not complicated. The Truth in the Bible is simple, yet it has deep meaning that penetrates to the depths of our being. Even a child can understand it and be blessed.  The Bible is easy to understand. God does not want us to live complicated lives. He wants us to live in peace and to enjoy our lives. So, keep it simple each and every day!

Prayer: Father God, thank you for your simple and powerful ways. I ask You to help me to keep life simple. It is in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
